It was the 3rd September and our judges Graham Knight and Steward; Mick Bailey were out and about this time judging the growing Maize.

Graham Knight Judge, Phil Smith assistant, Mick Bailey steward and a step ladder (all will become clear).
It would be typical after all of the dry weather that we have experienced, this day would be what is known locally as “Daggaly. A mixture of grey sky, mizzle a good dose of damp the occasional hint of sunshine but with a splash of rain for good measure.
The team had 8 farms to visit clocking up a good few miles, but as per usual they were greeted with a warm welcome and great conversation from all of the competitors. All of the entries were of a highest standards so the task was not an easy one.
Due to the poor weather conditions drone flight was not possible, so in comes a sturdy stepladder to enable the judge to see over the crop while being firmly braced by his two assistants.
It must be said that their task is not all fun especially when trying to work with the weather. This day was no differant when it was reported that around lunch time the conditions got so bad that they had no other possible choice than to seek refuge in a local hostelry until the worst had past and they could continue with their task.
A big thank you to our competitors who with out there would be no competition, to our steward and judges who give up their own time to go around these sites and to The Cock Inn at Mugginton for looking after our team.
